Parenting Group
3 Units Per Group 1.5 Hours
The group facilitator offers instruction and provides a supportive-forum for parents to explore and process parenting issues. This is an open ended group. Parents can enter and re-enter the group as they desire. Topics are selected according to requests from referring Children's Division Workers and from Parents in attendance.
Examples of topics covered in this group include:
*The Triple P - Positive Parenting Program Instructional Module was chosen as the model for this group from the California Evidence Based Clearinghouse due to it being classified with the highest effectiveness ratings both from the field of empirical research and from the social services arena.
Problematic Sexual Behavior Group for Adolescent Males
4 Units Per Group 2 Hours
Designed for males between the ages of 12 and 16, this group helps clients explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors which led to their problematic sexual behavior. *Required text for this group is Pathways A Guided Workbook for Youth Beginning Treatment by Timothy J. Kahn, and can be accessed through: http://www.safersociety.org/allbks/wp090.php . Clients are re-directed into age-appropriate and socially acceptable beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors during this group experience . Victim empathy is addressed on the levels of primary victims, secondary victims, as well as identifying the community, and society as tertiary victims. Clients are taught to be accountable for their behavior in every life area, including their sexual beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. Therefore, a proactive approach for planning, managing, and maintaining acceptable behavior is taken. Clients also identify a "support system" of individuals to whom they agree to be accountable outside of the group setting.
*This is not a juvenile sexual offender group offering. It is educational in nature, and therefore, does not require an admission of "guilt" for admittance into the group. This is a "closed group", and group number is limited to assure a quality group experience for each client. Duration of group depends upon the progress made by the group members as a whole. An individual session per week is required for each group member to have a personalized treatment experience in addition to his group experience.
